REFERENCE: Republic of China (Chinese trad. 中華民國, ext. 中华民国, pinyin: Zhōnghuá Mínguó, pal.: Zhonghua Minguo; the name Taiwan is often used by the name of the island, which makes up most of the territory controlled by the republic) - a partially recognized state in East Asia, previously had a one-party system, wide diplomatic recognition and control over all of China, now turned into a democratic state with limited diplomatic recognition and controlling only Taiwan and adjacent islands. He is one of the founders of the UN and was previously a member of the UN Security Council (in 1971, the place of the Republic of China in the UN was transferred to the People's Republic of China).
