REFERENCE: Mitteldeutsche Creditbank issues. According to the Law on Banks (March 14, 1875), 33 banks received the right to issue banknotes in the German Empire.

The Mitteldeutsche Creditbank was founded on 29 February 1856 by a consortium of Jewish bankers from Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig and Hamburg, headquartered in Meiningen. By decree of Duke Bernhard II, Bankhaus W.F.Jäger in Frankfurt am Main received a concession to create a bank called "Mitteldeutsche Creditbank in Meiningen." The bank received the right to issue banknotes for lending to industrial enterprises. The bank grew rapidly, becoming the seventh largest private German bank, with a wide network of branches. The total asset in 1874 was 35 million thalers. In 1875 The bank lost its right to issue. In 1929, together with Commerz-und Privat-Bank AG merged into Commerzbank.
