Generalgouvernement

Generalne Gubernatorstwo

REFERENCE: Generalgouvernement (Polish: Generalne Gubernatorstwo) (1939-1945) - an administrative-territorial entity in Poland occupied by Nazi Germany in 1939. Some regions of Poland (Poznań, Katowice, Polish Pomerania) were annexed by the Third Reich as Reichsgau or even ordinary districts and were not part of the General Government. The Governor General was established on October 26, 1939 in accordance with the order of the Reich Chancellor of the German Empire Adolf Hitler of October 12, 1939. Until July 31, 1940 it was called Generalgouvernement für die besetzten polnischen Gebiete, and after that - Generalgouvernement. The Governor General was divided into four districts: Krakow District, Warsaw District, Lublin District and Radom District. In August 1941, the lands of Galicia (the fifth district - the District of Galicia - with a center in Lemberg), which in 1939-1941 were part of the Ukrainian SSR, were also included in the Governor General. The capital of the General Government was Krakow. The Governor of the General Government is Hans Frank.
