Le Territoire du Bassin de la Sarre
Saarbeckengebiet
REFERENCE: The territory of the Saar Basin (French: Le territoire du Bassin de la Sarre, German: Saarbeckengebiet) is the territory of Germany, which after the First World War was occupied by Great Britain and France and from 1920 to 1935 was under the control of the League of Nations. The managed territory as a whole corresponded to the modern land of Saarland, which is part of the Federal Republic of Germany, its administrative center was the city of Saarbrücken. After the plebiscite of 1935, the territory was returned to Germany.
In the Territory of the Saar Basin, the monetary unit was the French franc. On behalf of Mines Domaniales de la Sarre, Etat Francais (French National Management of Saarland Mines) issued certificates in denominations ranging from 50 centimes to 1000 francs. Certificates were withdrawn from circulation in 1930. After the accession of the Saar to the German Empire in 1935, the Reichsmark was put into circulation, the official exchange rate is 1 franc = 0.1645 RM.
