REFERENCE: The Kingdom of Hanover (German: Königreich Hannover) occupied most of modern northwestern Germany from 1814 to 1866. The capital is the city of Hanover. It was formed after the Congress of Vienna and the liquidation of the Napoleonic kingdom of Westphalia. The end of Hanover's existence as a state was put by the Austro-Prussian-Italian War of 1866, during which Hanover supported Austria, after which Prussian troops invaded there, King George V was overthrown, and the former kingdom annexed by Prussia William I and turned into the province of Hanover.
