Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen
REFERENCE: Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (German Schwarzburg-Sondershausen) - German county since 1643, then (in 1697-1909) the imperial principality of the sovereign house of Schwarzburg. The capital is the city of Sondershausen. The population - at the beginning of the 20th century was about 80 thousand people living in 9 cities, 84 communes. The vast majority of the inhabitants were Protestants.
Geographically, the principality consisted of two separate parts: located in the Thuringian forest of Obergerschaft (342.9 km ², 50.9% of the population) and surrounded by the territory of the Prussian province of Saxony Untergerschaft (519 km ², 49.1% of the population). Obergerschaft consisted of two counties and three small lots, separated from each other by the lands of Saxe-Weimar, Saxe-Gotha and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Untergershaft consisted of one continuous district Sondershausen. It was irrigated by the rivers Elba, Wipper with Bebra, Hero with Spring.
