Banque de France

Type - 1938

Issues 1938-1939 (1945)

REFERENCE: Banque de France. Type - 1938. Banknotes were printed in 1938-1939. A banknote of 300 francs came into circulation in 1945.

The reason for the preparation of the issue of a banknote of the 1938 type was the Sudeten crisis and the fear of the crisis escalating into a pan-European war.

Notes:

1. Banknotes are not dated. The print date can be determined by the gender of the banknote series.

2. In the Peak catalog, Series W 300 franc notes are classified as substitution notes.

3. The design of the 300-franc banknote is borrowed from an unreleased 10-franc type 1933 banknote. For details see Bank of France notes not issued/trial

4. Trial banknotes of 500 francs of the type 1938 are known - overprint on the banknote of 300 francs 1938. For more details, see Bank of France notes not issued/trial

5. The 3000 franc note differs sharply in design from other French banknotes, it is frankly primitive.
