REFERENCE: Barbados is a state in the West Indies on the island of the same name in the Lesser Antilles group, in the eastern Caribbean. Located relatively close to the South American continent, 434.5 km northeast of Venezuela. The closest islands to Barbados are Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, both to the west of Barbados. The area of the island is 431 km ², it is mostly flat, with small hills in the middle. The composition of the soil indicates that the island is not of volcanic origin, and consists mainly of coral sediments. Barbados is one of the leading developing countries in terms of living standards and literacy of the population according to the UN Development Program, being in fourth place.
