REFERENCE: Congo belge (Dutch: Belgisch-Kongo) - a colony of Belgium that existed on the territory of the modern Democratic Republic of the Congo after the King of Belgium Leopold II sold the Independent State of the Congo to the Belgian state on November 15, 1908, and before the declaration of independence of the Congo on June 30, 1960. In October 1908, the Belgian Parliament adopted the "Law on the Administration of the Belgian Congo." According to this law, the legislative power in the Belgian Congo was exercised by the Belgian King and Parliament of Belgium, as well as the Governor General, to whom all executive power was simultaneously transferred. Supervision of the colonial administration was carried out by a specially appointed cabinet member - the Minister for Belgian Congo. The capitals of the colony were the cities of Boma (until 1926) and (later) Leopoldville; other major centers are Stanleyville and Elizabethville. Wiki
