In 1649, at the request of Louis XIII, the island of Bourbon (Île Bourbon) became known in honor of the royal family of the Bourbons. In 1715, coffee production began, the first six coffee trees were imported from Yemen.
In 1764, ownership of the island passed from the French East India Company to the French Crown.
On March 23, 1793, after the overthrow of the monarchy in France, the island was renamed Reunion or Reunion de Patriot, in honor of the historical association of revolutionaries from Marseille and the National Guard in Paris. Wiki
