REFERENCE: Egypt (Arab. مصر, masr مصر), official name Arab Republic of Egypt (Arab. جمهورية مصر العربية Dzhumkhuriyyat Misr al-Arabiyya, masr جمهورية مصر العربية Gumkhuriya Masr il-Arabiyya) - the state in North Africa and on the Sinai Peninsula of Asia therefore is the country of two continents.
It borders Israel, the Gaza Strip, Sudan and Libya. In the north, the territory is washed by the waters of the Mediterranean, in the east - by the Red Seas. Both seas are connected by the artificially constructed Suez Canal.

The National Bank of Egypt was founded in 1898, which received the right to issue banknotes exchanged for gold. The bank began issuing banknotes on April 3, 1899. On August 2, 1914, the exchange of banknotes for gold was discontinued, banknotes of the National Bank were declared legal tender.
