Ἑλληνικὴ Πολιτεία
Ellīnikī́ Politía
First Hellenic Republic
REFERENCE: First Hellenic Republic - This name is used to refer to the first Greek state during the Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire. In the early stages of the uprising in 1821, various areas elected their own governing councils. These were replaced by a central administration at the First National Assembly of Epidaurus in early 1822, which also adopted Greece's first constitution, marking the birth of the modern Greek state. Councils continued to exist, however, central authority was not established until 1824/1825. In 1827, at the Third National Assembly in Trezen, it was decided to create the Greek state (Greek Ἑλληνικὴ Πολιτεία) and appoint Count Ioannis Kapodistria as governor of Greece.
