REFERENCE: The Kingdom of Hijaz is a state in Hijaz that declared independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1916. It was ruled by the Hashemite dynasty. In the mid-1920s, it was conquered by Nejd, after which the united Kingdom of Nejd and Hijaz was created.

Rial Hijaz (Arabic ريال) - the monetary unit of the Kingdom of Hijaz in 1921-1925. In 1921, the minting of their own coins began. Bronze coins were minted in 1⁄8, 1⁄4, 1⁄2, 1 kurush, silver in 5, 10 and 20 kurush. In 1924, a gold coin was minted - "dinar Hashimi." In 1924, the issue of banknotes of the Arab National Bank of Hijaz began. Banknotes were issued in 1⁄2, 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 rials. In September 1924, the Sultanate of Najd launched a war against Hejaz and captured it in 1925. The issue of Hijaz banknotes was discontinued.
