REFERENCE: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Ier. full 香港特別行政區, ext. 香港特别行政区, eng. Hong Kong Special Administrative Region,), abbreviated Hong Kong (ier. 香港, eng. Hong Kong, kant. Heūnggóng) or Xianggang is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China, one of the leading financial centers in Asia and the world.
Hong Kong is located on the Kowloon Peninsula, washed by the South China Sea from the west, south and east, as well as on more than 260 islands, the largest of which are Hong Kong (the location of the supreme authorities and the financial center of the territory), Lantau and Lamma. In the north, Hong Kong borders the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone as part of the Chinese province of Guangdong. Hong Kong is usually divided into three parts: Hong Kong Island itself, Kowloon and New Territories. Hong Kong is part of the Pearl River Delta region, located on the left bank of its mouth.
In 1842, Hong Kong was captured by Great Britain and remained its colony until 1997, when the People's Republic of China gained sovereignty over the territory. According to the Sino-British Joint Declaration and the Basic Law of Hong Kong, the territory is granted wide autonomy until 2047, that is, within 50 years after the transfer of sovereignty. As part of the course "One Country - Two Systems" and "Hong Kong is ruled by Hong Kongers themselves in a high degree of autonomy" during this period, the Central People's Government of the PRC takes over the defense and foreign policy of the territory, while Hong Kong reserves control of legislation, police forces, monetary system, duties and immigration policy, and maintains representation in international organizations and events.
