Repubblica Romana
REFERENCE: Repubblica Romana (Italian: Repubblica Romana) was a state in Italy proclaimed on 15 February 1798 as a result of the invasion of Napoleonic France by Louis Alexandre Berthier. The Roman Republic was a satellite state of France and governed by the French Directory. It was formed from the territories of the Papal States; Pope Pius VI was expelled to France, where he died in 1799. Immediately after its formation, the Roman Republic took control of two other states formed on the territory of the Papal States: the Tiberin Republic and the Anconitan Republic. The Roman Republic was liquidated in October 1799, when the Papal States were restored by the forces of the Kingdom of Naples.
