REFERENCE: Kingdom of Sardin (Italian Regno di Sardegna, sard. Regnu de Sardigna, drink. Regn ёd Sardёgna; often called also, in its central region Piedmont-Sardinia or Sardinia-Piedmont) - a state that existed in Italy from 1720 to 1861; at the end of its existence, it consisted of previously independent states of Italy, except for the island of Sardinia, the Principality of Piedmont, the duchies of Aosta and Montferrat, the county of Nice, the duchies of Savoy and Genoa. The total area of ​ ​ its territory was 76,000 km ², the population - 5,167,000 inhabitants (1857). The capital is Turin.
After the formation of the Kingdom of Italy (1861), the former Sardinian kingdom formed in it the regions of Sardinia, Piedmont, Liguria and part of the province of Pavia; Savoy and Nice passed to France.
