Região Autónoma da Madeir
REFERENCE: Madeira is an autonomous region of Portugal located on the archipelago of the same name in the North Atlantic Ocean, about 1000 km southwest of Portugal and 500 km west of the African coast. Madeira is included in the EU as a special remote territory. The archipelago consists of two inhabited islands: Madeira and Porto Santo, and two remote groups of small uninhabited islands serving as a haven for seabirds - Desertash Island and Selvagens Island. The island's port at Funchal is significant due to the large number of commercial and passenger ships calling and what is the main stop for cruise routes from Europe to the Caribbean.
