REFERENCE: Portuguese East Africa (official port. Estado da África Oriental) - the name of the colonial possessions of the Portuguese Empire in East Africa. Now - Mozambique. On June 11, 1891, an Anglo-Portuguese treaty was concluded, according to which the territory of the colony was greatly reduced. The reason for the treaty was military skirmishes on the borders of British and Portuguese East Africa. After a military coup in Portugal, known as the Carnation Revolution, the country gained independence on June 25, 1975.
