Republic of Panama

República de Panamá

REFERENCE: Republic of Panama (Spanish República de Panamá) is a state with a presidential form of government, a unitary state system and a democratic regime in Central and South America on the Isthmus of Panama between the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean, bordered by Costa Rica to the west and Colombia to the east.

Panamanian currency - Balboa was introduced in 1903, after separation from Colombia. However, in practice, balboa is little used. Panama has its own coinage, but US dollars are used as paper currency. In Panama, coins are minted in denominations of 5 balboa, as well as 1 balboa and smaller (since 1934, the balboa rate has been firmly tied to the American dollar in a ratio of 1:1). Panama was the first of three Latin American countries to come to dollarization; Ecuador and El Salvador were later dollarized. Wiki
