Peso was a currency of occupation issued between 1942 and 1945 by the Empire of Japan for use in the occupied territories of the Philippines during World War II. On December 8, 1941, Japanese troops landed on Batan Island, and on December 10 - on the islands of Camiguin and Luzon. As a result of the Philippine operation, by June 1942, the entire Philippine archipelago was occupied by Japanese troops. In 1942, the issuance of Japanese government banknotes in pesos and centavos was launched. The Philippine peso was not withdrawn from circulation and continued to circulate in parallel with the occupation money. All notes bear the "P" series (Philippines).
