REFERENCE: The Kingdom of Portugal (port. Reino de Portugal) - the monarchical period in the history of Portugal, which lasted 771 years - from July 26, 1139 to October 5, 1910, when the country officially had the status of a kingdom. The Portuguese regicide of 1908 led to popular unrest, culminating in the revolution of 1910, after which the First Portuguese Republic arose. Parallel to the existence of the European kingdom, the Portuguese also created a vast colonial empire in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Between 1139-1910, five dynasties changed in the country.
