Military issue of banknotes of the USSR in Romania 1944

REFERENCE: The Soviet government decided to make military tickets issued in national monetary units for release in Romania. In the Armistice Agreement of the Allied Powers with Romania, it was established that "the Romanian Government must regularly pay the sums of money in Romanian currency required by the Union (Soviet) High Command to perform its functions...." At the same time, the Annex to the Agreement specifically stipulated: "The Romanian Government will withdraw and issue, within such time frame and on such conditions as will be indicated by the Union (Soviet) Commander-in-Chief, all currency in Romanian territory issued by the Union (Soviet) Commander-in-Chief, and donates the currency thus seized to the Union (Soviet) Commander-in-Chief." The release of these tickets by the Soviet command in the country was limited; they were in circulation for a short time. After the liberation of the country from German troops was completed in October 1944, the Romanian government began to redeem the banknotes of the Soviet military command in national currency at the rate of 1 military leu for 5 Romanian leu. Subsequently, military lei withdrawn from circulation were transferred to the Soviet command.
