 is a type of corporate scrip sold by The Walt Disney Company and subject to exchange for goods or services at many Disney properties. Similar in size, shape and design to the US dollar, most Disney dollars depict the image of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Dumbo and/or a drawing of one of the landmarks of the Disneyland resort or Disney World. The currency is accepted in theme parks of the United States of America, cruise ships Disneyruen, in Disney Store and in some parts of Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Caribbean. The Disney dollar has series A and D; the first created for the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, and the second for Disney World, near Orlando, Florida. In 2005, both resorts issued a $50 note designed by Disney designer Charles Boyer to commemorate Disneyland's 50th anniversary. Since 2005, the company has also released the T series for the Disney Store. Special editions are sometimes sold to Disney employees as a form of incentive. Banknotes were discontinued by Disney on May 14, 2016.<br>
<br> Disney dollars were first used at Disneyland on May 5, 1987, and Disney World parks are used starting with Epcot on October 2 of that year. The currency originally had denominations of one and five dollars. In 1990, Disney expanded the denomination to ten dollars. In 1992, Disney Store began using Disney dollars. Currency is redeemable for goods or services at Disney theme parks, Disneyruen cruise ships, the Port of Call of Castaway Cay and the Disney Store, unless directions printed on individual banknotes report otherwise. However, they are incompatible with coin acceptors and must be exchanged for US currency. In addition, if Disney dollars are used for purchases and small coins are issued, small coins are provided in U.S. currency.
