REFERENCE: Taiwan (Chinese trad. 臺灣, ext. 台湾, pinyin: Táiwān; colonial name - Formosa, from port. ilha Formosa - "Beautiful Island") - an island in the Pacific Ocean, 150 km from the eastern coast of mainland China, from which it is separated by the Taiwan Strait.
