REFERENCE: Montenegro (Serb/Montenegrin. Crna Gora, Crna Gora; Italian Montenegro, comes from the toponym Crna Gora (black mountain) - a state in southeastern Europe, on the Adriatic coast of the Balkan Peninsula. It is washed by the Adriatic Sea, has land borders with Croatia in the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina in the northwest, Serbia in the northeast, partially recognized by the Republic of Kosovo in the east and Albania in the southeast.
Until June 2006, it was part of the confederate State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, occupying 13.5% of its total territory. Full independence of Montenegro was proclaimed on June 3, 2006. In 2010, it acquired the official status of a candidate country for membership in the European Union.
The capital and largest city of Montenegro is Podgorica. The historical and cultural capital is the city of Cetinje.

In 2000, Montenegro switched to the German mark, and since January 2002, the official currency of the country has become the euro. Not being a member of the eurozone, Montenegro has no right to issue euros and is forced to be content with money coming from abroad (in particular, from foreign tourists).
June 3, 2006 - The Parliament of Montenegro proclaimed the independence of the republic. June 15, 2006 - Montenegro's independence is recognized by Serbia, and at the end of June Montenegro is admitted to the UN.
